ICON EQUIPMENT GO TO THE LARGEST UNDERGROUND CONSTRUCTION SHOW IN THE WORLD

10/16/2007

The Bauma Fair in Munich Germany is the world's largest heavy civil construction show in the world with over 400,000 visitors from every country yo can think of.  Bohrtec, GBMH displayed right beside Herrenkenecht Tunneling Systems inside one of the many airport hangers taken up at the old Munich Airport which now is the show grounds for the Bauma Fair.

Icon Equipment flew two representatives from the company out to man and help with the show but also get the latest information available.  Bohrtec, GMBH had on display one of the BM400LS model Pilot Tube Guided Auger Boring machines, complete with double wall pilot rods, jacking swivel set up, active head for stones and gravels and a winch set up for fast retraction of the jacking frame.  The newest and greatest from the show on display by Bohrtec was there Displaceable Hammer System (capable of accurately steering in a tough ground with stones, gravels, small boulders, mixed face material and even soft concrete).  This development is not yet released to the market but will be coming soon.  Check back frequently for news updates.

NJDOT Route 18 Road Project, New Brunswick, NJ

9/29/2006

Icon played a substantial role in the Route 18 Project for Conti Enterprises by engineering and supplying the slide rail shoring systems needed for the various underground work ahead.

Icon was contacted by Conti Enterprises to help in sheeting the required excavations for the Jacking operations and the Concrete Bridge Pier installation for the New Street Bridge.  Our work on the project began in early January and continued until middle May of this year.  Systems supplied on the project were jacking pits 38'long x 14.76'wide x 16'deep and a large system shown to the left approximately 100'Long x 20.5'wide x 16'deep for the installation of a large poured in place concrete bridge pier with four column stems.

We also designed the system with a series of internal utility crossing frames in order to move around an existing DIP waterline running through the excavation.

Bohrtec Scores at Chester Downs Casino Project, Chester, PA

4/10/2006

C. Abbonnizio & Sons called on Icon to help them out with a difficult situation on the Chester Downs, Project.  C. Abbonizio & Sons who is working for T.N. Ward had to install a 12" force main and an 8" sanitary sewer while working in a very tight area between two railroad bridges belonging to Conrail, a gas main and a high voltage concrete duct bank.  The job was designed with steel casing around the 12" force main and the 8" sanitary sewer that had to be extremely accurate.  Because of the proximity to the Delaware River Icon made use of Bohrtec's patented WATER AUGER to close the auger face making the tunnel water tight.

However, we did encounter a problem in the first bore.  Approximately 50' in the drive we hit a wooden pile under the footing of the railroad bridge.  Because the pilot tube and auger system is designed for 50 tons of pull back, we were able to retrieve all of the equipment, shift slightly to the right and complete the drive without any problems.  The two 90'LF bores were completed in approximately 4 days each not including setup within a couple hundredths of an inch to line and grade.

Icon's slide rail system digs deep at The Meadowlands

9/20/2005

In July of 2005 Icon Equipment Distributors, Inc. supplied Ferreira Construction of Branchburg, NJ with a number of Slide Rail Systems for the reconstruction of Sewers and Concrete Structure Work for the Xanadu project at the Meadowlands in East Rutherford, NJ.  Icon Equipment supplied Mike Seelman (project Manager) with site specific engineered drawings and calculations with a P.E. stamp for all of our slide rail shoring system designs.

The Job involved the installation of 60" HDPE pipe and several concrete manholes and structures.  Robert Langenbach (Head Field Technician for Icon) and Peter Custy (Field Technician) worked with Ferreira and there crew to assist in the installation the following slide rail sheeting systems: 3Bay trenching system 53'long  x 6.38'wide x 20'deep, a quantity of 2 - 1Bay 16.4'long x 16.4'wide x 20'deep pits with utility frames and a 3Bay triple slide rail trench 53'long x 6.38'wide x 24'deep.

Bohrtec performs at The Prairie Meadows Storm and Sewer Reconstruction Project

9/1/2005

The Rognes Corp., of Ankeny was able to successfully complete a demanding project fully utilizing the capabilities of the Bohrtec’s BM400 that had been purchased from Icon. Rognes was under contract as a subcontractor for the Corell Company, based in Des Moines, Iowa Rognes Corp. had to do two bores of 160’ and 200’ under the practice track and a portion of the parking lot.

“The advantage of using the pilot tube is the accuracy that can be achieved,” said Warren Rognes, President/Owner of the Rognes Corporation. “While you can grade bore accurately with a conventional water level, it is nearly impossible to have a perfect line as the casing pulls in the direction of the rotation of the augers. It also requires a lot of experience to build a steering head and read and interpret the water level in varying soil conditions. If you are below the water table, you also run the risk of losing the ability of reading the water level accurately. The pilot tube is not affected by changing soil conditions other than rock, and, actually, it works better in wetter soil,” he explained. According to Rognes, the process of pushing and steering the pilot tube is relatively easy to teach.

Dan Ryan Expressway Reconstruction, Waterline Relocation and Sewer Construction, Chicago, IL.

8/20/2005

The above work involved the relocation and construction of Sewer and Waterlines underneath the extremely busy 8 lane Dan Ryan Expressway in Chicago, IL.

Icon was contacted by Reliable Contracting & Equipment Company Inc. to supply, design and engineer the temporary shoring systems required for the jacking and receiving pit locations throughout the project.  Reliable and Icon worked together to size the slide rail pit systems to meet the needs of L.J. Keefe Co (Sub Contractor, Boring) and the requirements of the job.

The designs called for jacking pits 35'Long x 16.4'Wide x 32'Deep and receiving pits 15'Wide x 15'Long x 32'Deep for a majority of the work.  The depths of cuts ranged from 24' to 40' in stiff clay material.  Some of the critical challenges on the project were limited access, existing utilities and tough ground conditions.

Icon delivered the first of multiple slide rail systems to to the above project in December of 2003 and continued through to August of 2005.  We have some of the Largest Triple Slide Rail Systems in the world and can supply for these systems anywhere in the country to go as much as 36' deep in the ground.
